Priority 11 · OSHA standard - training by qualified providers
HAZWOPER (29 CFR 1910.120)
Needed only if the company takes on hazardous-substance or contaminated-site cleanup. Routine junk/debris hauling does not trigger it.
Who needs it
Workers handling uncontrolled hazardous-substance releases or government-mandated hazardous-site cleanup. Awareness level is the minimum tier.
Steps to get it
- 1 Decide whether your work involves hazardous substances (most cleanup work does not).
- 2 For incidental exposure risk, take First Responder Awareness training (recognize and notify only).
- 3 Step up to 24- or 40-hour training only if you do hands-on hazardous-site cleanup.
- 4 Keep current with the 8-hour annual refresher.
